BREASTS

The appearances of a female’s breasts are closely tied with her sexuality and sense of womanhood. Women can be born with breasts they feel are too small, too large or differ in size. With pregnancy and ageing, breasts that may have once been “perfect” now sag and lack the shape they once had.

Breasts can be changed in size or rejuvenated to meet your individual needs.

a. Breast augmentation (breast implants)

Many women feel they have been born with underdeveloped breasts. This leads to poor self esteem. Breast augmentation can help restore confidence.

Using the latest techniques, implants that best resemble human tissue are placed either beneath the breast itself or the muscle behind the breast. These implants are made of SAFE silicone gel. The choice of implant type, size and the surgical approach is made individually with each patient at the time of consultation.

This procedure is usually performed as a day case under general anaesthesia. In some situations an overnight stay in hospital is required.

b. Breast reduction

The sheer weight of a woman’s overdeveloped breasts can destroy her quality of life. Bras with straps that cut into her shoulders, irritation in the skin under the breast plus neck and back pain are part of her normal daily life. The ability to reduce a woman’s breast volume and weight gives her the chance to live a life free of these symptoms.

The breast reduction operation involves the removal of excess breast tissue and skin so as to decrease volume and weight. The nipples are repositioned to restore shape.

This procedure is done under general anaesthesia and patients are kept in hospital for 2-3 days.

c. Mastopexy (“breast uplift”)

Breasts sag and lose shape due to pregnancy, breast feeding, weight changes and the effects of ageing. They can be rejuvenated to restore the volume and shape they once had.

The operation involves the removal of excess skin to tighten the breast envelope and the repositioning of the nipple. Some times an implant is used to restore lost volume.

This procedure is usually performed as a day case under general anaesthesia . In some situations an overnight stay in hospital is required.
